PostSubject: A year after...   Thu Dec 06, 2007 1:49 am

Yeah well so it had been a year since all that with the Brotherhood of Evil happened and to be honest Robin wasn't really the one to go easy on himself after that. He blamed himself for what had happened to numerous of Titans from all over the world. He knew he shouldn't blame himself so much but he couldn't help it, knowing he was supposed to keep everyone safe and leading them into victory. A heavy burden lay on his shoulders. Also he kind of felt troubled with the whole Starfire and him theme that was apparently going on everywhere. What was up with that anyway? Sure he liked Starfire and all but why was everyone trying to pair him and Starfire up? Was there someone who was going around and telling false rumors about him and Starfire? He had never said he loved her. He didn't know if he loved anyone. He had bad experience with that really. Both relationship wise and family wise. He tended to trust people that doesn't deserve to be trusted. So that's why he was here, leading the Teen Titans away from everything and everyone he used to know. Everyone says he's a great hero but sometimes he doubts that. Only a little more than a year ago he had this great obsession with this villain called Slade and he really made a mess out of himself and his team started to lose their trust in him. he almost lost his friends. Fortunately they forgave him, but the guilt of letting them down is still in there inside him. Yeah... perhaps he was thinking too much of others than thinking about his own well fare. he stopped that when he lost his parents at an age of 9. He'd never told his team about it. They didn't really need to know what made Robin into what he was today and what the hell happened to make him so messed up.

Anyway... after the defeat of the Brotherhood of Evil, Robin hadn't seen much villainy in Jump City, where the Teen Titans resided. He was kind of glad that his team was able to get a break from crime fighting and doing what they wanted the most. So what did Robin want to do the most? Nothing. All he was dedicated to was crime fighting. As for the moment he was thinking of his future. Would he always be in the lead of the Titans for years to come or would he actually get a life? A normal life? He actually doubted that sometimes. He was afraid of personal attachments like relationships. That was why he kept his identity and past hidden, even from his own team members and friends. They just knew he was once the sidekick of Batman and he didn't wanted to talk about it. Ever. Robin was afraid of attachments because he was afraid he would lose them again. Either to death or some conspiracy against him. But something inside of him longed for something like a normal life. Like a family. Perhaps the only one who knew just a little about him had to be Raven, who had been inside his mind, when Slade sort of took over his mind and made it look like he was there, when he really wasn't. What Raven had seen inside his mind he didn't know. He just remembered he had seen flashes of his past running through his mind. He just hoped Raven hadn't seen more than that. At least she hadn't been asking about his mind after that. She was quite the secrecy girl really. She was good at keeping them. He trusted her. He knew she wouldn't say anything to anyone if he asked her not to. But since she hadn't asked he just assumed she hadn't seen enough to know what to ask about. Dammit would life ever get easy?

Starfire was quite content with her life here in Jump City. A year after the fight with the Brotherhood of Evil everything seemed to be in order. Just some small villains here and there but that could never be avoided and she knew their leader would always lead them to victory. She held great confidence in him. She knew about the rumors about her and Robin but didn't know what to think of it. Sure Robin was handsome and all but she didn't feel like she knew him at all. He was keeping so many things secret when he knew everything about his team. It had to be horrible for him to go through all that alone but she and the others seemed to respect their leader's decision of keeping his past and identity secret. Even from them. He was handsome yes and very, very kind. Perhaps she had feelings for him, for whenever she was around him or at least just close to him she felt her skin tingle and her heart jump against her rip cage. She knew girls around the world would do anything to get their hands on Robin, but he didn't seem like the relationship type. At least not to her. To her Robin was her best friend. He was always there when they needed her, but she was worried about him and had no doubts that perhaps the others would be too. He had seemed quiet for some time now. He was staying out of the team's way. She had suspected a new Slade obsession but had found him just staring at nothing on top of the roof. She knew never to disturb him when he was in that kind of thinking mode. It was probably very important to him. So she just minded her own business and let Robin mind his. But still she couldn't help but worry about him. Today she wanted to ask him if they shouldn't join the team and do something together as friends. Perhaps in the park. She enjoyed their free time in the park. It was fun.

As she looked for him she found him to be nowhere inside and last when to the roof to find him there. She slowly approached her leader and spoke in a small uncomfortable voice, "Robin?"

He turned around at the sound of Starfire's innocent voice and looked at her before he smiled friendly to her. "Yeah? Something wrong?"

"No, not at all. Everything is fine. It's been a while since we defeated the Brotherhood of Evil and I was thinking perhaps it is time for some free time?"

Robin thought about it and nodded. "It does sound nice right about now. Any ideas?"

"It has been a while since we visited the park. I enjoy our picnics there and the games we play."

"Then that's settled. Let's go inside and put the idea up for the team to discuss. We do need some time off."

It was relatively early in the day, when an alarm clock went off in one of the rooms in the tower. In this particular room, the inhabitant was none to pleased to hear the incessant ringing pounding away his sleep hours. Of course, it was more the ear shattering noise that was pissing him off at the moment, not the fact that he had to wake up now. The dream that had dissolved with the opening of his eyes was not a pleasant one at the least. Not the goofy, B-rate horror film style dreams that one may expect, this dream was actually a sad one. Memories of the past, now nearly 18 months ago. The intense battle, the taunts, the tears, the shaking ground, and the shattered hope. The figure on the bed turned his clock off, and slowly shambled out of bed. He walked over to his dresser, and out of the bottom drawer, he pulled a glass box, fashioned in the shape of a heart. He opened the lid, and inside lay a picture taped to a mirror. In the picture was a thin and willowy blond girl, dressed slightly tomboyish, embracing a shorter boy, whose body was covered in green fur. Sighing, the Teen Titan closed the box and placed it back in it's drawer. Pulling off his pajamas and donning his day wear, he slowly walked out of the bed room.

Beast Boy had matured significantly over the year since the Brotherhood was defeated. The team could say this was due to the fact that he was starting to grow older, and naturally he would age mentally as well. In fact, what may be the cause was that the fight against the Brotherhood was a personal one for Beast Boy. Facing his old enemies and amending past mistakes, as he would call them, had caused his confidence to boost greatly, and though he was still the team prankster, he had grown considerably. Still, one other defining moment was the Terra doppleganger. Certainly not a pleasant moment in his life, Beast Boy had finally come to move on with his life after that day. However, recently, memories had been bubbling to the surface in his dreams. It was hard to move one when you couldn't forget anything.

'Oh well, they're just dreams. They've got to stop sooner or later,' Beast Boy thought to himself as he made his way to the main room. After carefully placing whoopy cushions under the regular cushions of all the chairs in the kitchen, he had gone to work making his toast and cereal breakfast.

It's been nearly a year since the defeat of the Brotherhood of Evil, and everyone had matured since that battle. Even Beast Boy had managed to grow up, but not nearly enough. He still had that immature side to him that always irritated her to no end. Though, Robin seemed the most effected in the team. She had noticed the way he had distanced himself from everyone else. She wouldn't be surprised if he was blaming himself for all that has happened. He just seemed like the type to blame himself for things, even if it wasn't his fault. She knew little about Robin, for she had seen glimpses of his mind when she had saved him from his obsession that was killing him. What those glimpses meant, she could only speculate, but she doubted those glimpses, those memories were good. But she respected his privacy, she understood perhaps better then anyone that some things are meant to be secrets. No one has to know everything about anything. She trusted Robin with her life and always would. He had been there for her, the team on countless occasions. It would be foolish not to trust him. He had made mistakes in the past, but he's changed, he's learned from those mistakes and she had forgiven him. Mistakes are made to be learned from. You fall in order to get up again, and with each fall, you learn more. Still, she couldn't help but be concerned about Robin, he was acting a little more distant then usual.

She was levitating above her bed, her deep amethyst eyes clouded over with thought. She was thinking about the team, about Robin and his behavior. As a friend, she cared fro her team members and would easily give her life for them. "Something's eating away at him, probably the whole ordeal with the Brotherhood of Evil." Perhaps later, she would speak with him. She would offer what advice and support she could give. Knowing she probably didn't have much time alone, she sighed and closed her eyes. Probably should get in as much meditation and silence as she could. No doubt Beast Boy or Cyborg would come pounding at her door wanting her to be a referee for Stank ball or something idiotic of that nature.

Cyborg had also grown during the attack from the Brotherhood of Evil. He became more determined, more confident and more protective of his friends, his 'family'. They meant everything to him and he noticed that everyone had matured over time and was proud of them. But like everyone else, they noticed something was wrong with Robin. But, he knew better then go digging at Robin. He wasn't the type to answer 20 questions. Cyborg had been up for about a half an hour now and as he saw BB come into the Com room and place the whoopy cushions everywhere, he grinned, "You know you're going to get into a lot of trouble." He wouldn't tell the others about the prank BB was pulling. If anything, he was BB's partner in crime. He loved pulling pranks on the others, even if they did get in trouble. Yes, they had matured, but obviously, they still had that troublesome side.

Robin walked straight for the Com room with Starfire by his side. She seemed quite cheery. Didn't she always these days? Well... how could he blame her? They were all winning against the crime bosses and they were totally kicking bad guy ass. But still Robin could find no cheery in his life. Everyone seemed just relieved to be on the team. Raven had to be relieved that her prophecy was over and she had a future. But Robin never believed he had a future. At least not a bright one.
As he walked he couldn't help but think. How long would he pretend to be okay in front of his team and when would he accept that he was all right? When would he give in to the pain? He was the master of hiding what was wrong and when something was wrong, but lately his master of hiding had lacked a lot. Perhaps it was because of the lack of sleep... the nightmares that still haunted his spiky haired head. Sure he could smile and laugh, but it would all be a facade to hide the truth from his friends. He wanted no pity from anyone. He hated pity. He never wanted to talk about his past ever again. He wanted nothing to do with his past. All he wanted was to be left alone with his nightmares and troubles. It was his to deal with and no one else.

As he opened the doors to the Com room he saw Beast Boy and Cyborg was already there and knew he had to pull up his facade of false happiness up and put on a fake smile before he said, "Morning guys." He looked around suspiciously and asked, "All right Beast Boy. Everything looks in order. What did you do?" He knew Beast Boy was the prankster of the team and Robin was used to Beast Boy having some surprise for the team every morning. He always managed to surprise them over and over again. Some credit could be given to the green little monster. He was one with humor.
Robin walked from Starfire's side and went straight to the kitchen to get black coffee to keep his sleepy mind awake. As he poured the black beverage into a cup he just watched the black liquid fill the cup slowly. Behind the mask of his, his eyes were gray and dull. Anyone who would see those eyes would be easily able to say that something wasn't as it should be with the young teen. He had thought about leaving the team so many times but never did it. He had thought about changing his identity too but he just couldn't pull himself together to do so. He wanted to do so many things but never did any of it. It always ended up in a stash of things he wanted to do but he never did one of them.

Starfire looked toward Robin and saw him stare into his cup. He would usually be talking his head off about some villain right about now but he was silent as the graveyards at night. He was different. Very different. What was going through that spiky haired head of his? Was he going through another obsession he didn't want to talk about? She hoped not. She knew only bad things came out of those things when it came to Robin having obsessions. Perhaps she should talk to one of the others and ask if they had noticed the change in their leader's behavior as well. She was worried for him as she would worry about all her friends if they didn't seem their usual selves. She looked from Cyborg to Beast Boy for an answer but as usual they were as clueless as she was. None of them knew that much about Robin anymore. Could they trust him anymore? Could they rely on his judgments to be rational? She didn't want to think like this but how could she avoid to think like this when her leader and best friend was acting like there was no one around him to talk to? He had changed so much. Not to the better but for the worse. Perhaps they were seeing who he really was. Perhaps a false facade he had kept up since they all got together was falling all around him and showing his true self. He knew everything about them and their backgrounds but they knew nothing about him. What could be so horrible to hide forever from his best friends? Didn't he know he could trust them with his secrets?

Beast Boy put on a bit of a poker face, though one could still see a smirk tugging at the sides of his mouth. He turned to Robin, and began to respond to him,"Why Robin, you wound me. I'm not annoying all the time." Inside of course, Beast Boy was laughing his ass off at the thought. He walked over to the coffee machine, awaiting the use of the delicious black nectar of the gods. He already had his cup filled with the necessary sugar and cream. However, he noticed something off about Robin. For a split second, he noticed that the smile dropped off of his face, and he looked dead. Beast Boy wasn't stupid as some might think, he noticed that the Boy Wonder was certainly not himself lately. He was sure the others had noticed too.

Looking to Cyborg and Starfire, he could see the worried questioning look on Star's face, and the somewhat defeated look on Cyborg's. Sighing, Beast Boy turned back to Robin and decided to speak again," So... what are we gonna do today? Prowl the city looking for trouble? Go to the police station and once more see that there's nothing they can't handle anymore? Play video games till our fingers turn to dust?"

Cyborg's mood was deflated the moment he looked at Robin. Even with the dude's mask on, he could tell that he wasn't all right. Making eye contact with Beast Boy, he had in mind to gather a meeting with the other Teen Titans and talk to them about Robin. Perhaps they could help the dude out. He's been there for the team more then once. It was time to return the favor. Cyborg still had faith in their leader, though, at times, he wondered if their leader would ever reveal everything about him. Robin knew mostly everything about his teammates. Hearing Beast Boy's question, he grinned, "I saw we go out and play some stank ball! We haven't played that stanky game in ages. Wadda all say? Or would you rather all watch me kick BB's butt over and over again in video games? Actually man, anything sounds good. It's a beautiful day, and we best not waste it!"

"Azarath Metrion Zinthos. Azarath Metrion Zinthos." The young sorceress chanted over and over again in her smooth monotone voice. Her graceful levitation matched her smooth controlled voice. But even through meditation, her thoughts would not cease to leave her be. They continued to think back to Robin. They shared a bond, the bond wasn't as strong as it could be, but it was strong enough that she could feel his emotions. And what she felt was pain, a great amount of pain. Yes, she was an empath and could easily sense others emotions, but with the bond that was shared between them, her affinity to feel his emotions were even easier to feel. Opening her eyes, her amethyst eyes were once again revealed. "Something's troubling him. Haunting him. It's not Slade, it's something else. Something deeper." Raven was concerned for Robin. Whatever it was that was eating away at him, his mask, his ability to hide his pain was slowly ebbing away. "He needs help. Help and wisdom, understanding. This isn't something we can handle carelessly." Drawing herself into deep thought, Raven considered the possibilities of helping her trusted leader. The thought of holding a meeting with the others was an idea that lingered inside his mind. She had to admit, each one of them had traits, insights, abilities that the others lacked. More minds were more useful then one. "He deserves our help, our care. He's proven he can be trusted more then once. If he's hurting, it's only time return the favor and help him in his time of need." Temporarily, she closed her eyes and quietly whispered a 'prayer' to the mentor that had raised her all her life. "Azar, give me the wisdom, give this team the guidance it needs to do this right." Knowing she couldn't hide in her room for much longer, she rose to her feet and decided it was time to join the others. As she walked down the hall, she was thinking, thinking not about the current situation at had, but thinking on a more personal level. Ever since the defeat of her father, she had been given a future, but what she wanted with her future, she didn't know. She knew she would most likely fight crime for the rest of her life, but what if she wanted more then just crime fighting? What if there was more to life then what she was living? Was this what everyone felt when they didn't know their future? Was there always a cloud of uncertainty, doubt? "Never mind that, there's more important issues at hand. You can concern yourself with personal issues at a later time. Right now, assisting Robin is the only thing that matters." With this, she silenced herself and watched as the sliding doors to the com room opened before her. Seeing that everyone was gathered, she briefly let her eyes scan over them as she approached them. As usual, she made her way right toward the kitchen, she wanted her herbal tea. But she couldn't help but notice and feel Robin's emotions. Judging from the looks of her comrades faces, they had noticed the change as well. Though, upon hearing BB's question and Cyborg's answer, Raven just shook her head. The activities described by Cyborg were pointless, but she wouldn't reject spending time with her friends. Even if she just observed them playing.

Robin knew he had to answer that question and first look at Starfire who smiled to him and so he nodded and said, "Starfire came with the great idea of us all going to the park and do whatever we want there. It's a great weather outside so we shouldn't be cooped up in here." All of a sudden he seemed okay again. He had just let his facade drop once but then put it get up again and the pain was washed off his appearance. It was like nothing was ever wrong with him and he suddenly had that perfect smile on his face that girls could melt around him for. Robin was just this person. Behind the mask existed another person who was dying to get help and someone to understand his needs. But he doubted there would ever be a person who would understand those needs. So he made Robin to hold his facade. It was the facade he held on to, to stay strong in tight moments. He looked up and noticed Raven was there too and that she was looking at him. That look. He didn't like it. It was like those eyes could see right through him and look into his mind and see what was going on. It made him look down and think. Could she look into his mind? Could she hear his thoughts? Could she see his past inside his head? He really hoped not. He didn't want anyone to know. No one needed to know how pathetic weak his past life was. He was strong now wasn't he? He had defeated Slade more than once and he and his fellowship of Titans had defeated the Brotherhood of Evil. He was still alive and still the leader of the Teen Titans, but how long would he be? How long would they continue to trust him when they knew absolutely nothing about him? He knew what it was like when his own team turned against him. They did once, but that was his own fault by becoming Red X to defeat Slade. What if the trust still wasn't completely there? What would he do if they lost their trust in him? These were just a few of those many millions of thoughts that went across his mind. You can't imagine how many thoughts and questions that went through his mind at that very moment. And it all ended up to one big question: Was it all worth it?
Robin looked up again and manned himself up and ignored Raven's look even though he felt like she could see right through his shield of everything being okay. He knew her darkest secrets and she knew nothing about him at all. Who was he? It was really anyone's guess at the moment. Sometimes he actually asked that question himself. He could ask who he was and why he was born only to suffer. But he never found an answer to his questions. He doubted anyone would ever have the right answers for his strange questions.

Starfire looked at Robin as he spoke out her idea of going to the park. "Yes let's go and have fun there. It's such a lovely weather outside and it would be a shame to waste it." She hoped that Robin would lighten up when they went and if they went to the park to have picnic and play ball or something along that line. Her best friends needed not to feel depressed now that they had defeated the Brotherhood of Evil. She knew it had taken a lot of Robin's pride away from him since he felt it was his fault that all those Titans were captured and frozen. He was frozen himself. Starfire remembered how Robin was right after they came home again. Jump City had changed... and so had Robin. A lot.

Beast Boy watched the exchange between Starfire, Robin, and Raven. Robin looked a lot more cheerful all of a sudden, but that didn't quite fool even him. Beast Boy knew that Robin had been put through a lot after all these years in the Titans, and probably much worse before they became a team. Beast Boy never quite understood how Robin could obsess over Slade like he did, until last year. Beast Boy's own past had caught up with him in the form of the Doom Patrol and the Brotherhood. That had been an experience that he didn't care to repeat. He considered his past to be more or less buried now, but it also caused more understanding of Robin. Robin's past was not buried, and that was shining clearly now. On top of it all, Slade was still on the loose, hiding somewhere, probably planning his next move. As much as the team didn't want to admit it, without Slade behind bars, this peace could not last forever. However, they all needed to try to enjoy the day, and Robin still wouldn't want them worrying about him.

"Well, fun in the sun sounds good to me. I got first dibs n the grill!"

Beast Boy started packing mounds of tofu based meat substitute into a cooler, knowing that Cyborg was unlikely to refuse an opportunity to kick his ass at football, and that Raven would tag along just to enjoy their company.

For a moment she could tell he was looking at her. But her gaze never wavered. She knew something was wrong, everyone knew. His mask, his masks of protection, they were falling one by one, slowly revealing Robin's true self. She was curious who truly was behind the mask. What he was really like. What was the human being that no one knew? What was that person trying to say? She would talk to Robin, not now. Not in front of everyone. She would take him aside later, when they could speak undisturbed. She had the ability to ease emotional pain as well as physical pain. But the question was, would he allow her to help him? Upon hearing the idea of going out to the park, Raven nodded, "Sounds good." She would tag along, just to be with her companions. She would bring along a book, just in case. Turning her gaze away from Robin, she noticed Beast Boy packing away Tofu and shook her head but said nothing. Pouring her ready herbal tea, she picked up the fragile cup and stepped aside. She had the feeling that soon Cyborg and Beast Boy would be arguing about food selection any second now. They always did.

Cyborg grinned from ear to ear when the suggestion of going to the park reached his ears. "All right! I'll get everything ready!" But as he saw Beast Boy packing up that fake meat he said, "How much of that nasty stuff do you need? No one's going to eat that! We need *real* meat." With this, Cyborg started packing a large cooler full of hamburgers and other types of meet. They would have a lot of fun at the park. The foo-ball as he often called it, then of course, stank ball, who could resist such a wonderful stanky game?

Robin nodded and knew this was settled. It would be easier for him to hide his pain from the others when they were out doing something. He just wanted to hide everything and have the pain overwith. He hated the pain he always felt go through his entire body. He hated the nightmares that roamed his mind through the night. He always woke up with sweat roaming around his body and his heart up his throat. He always used more than an hour to get out of his room. He took so long to get ready beause he took his time in the shower where he always vented out his emotions. No one could see him there and no one could see the open bleeding wound he had just above his heart. It was such a long time ago now but still it hurt him deeply.

"Well, then it's settled then. The park it is." He looked at his team and nodded. He knew that one day he would have to leave this team behind and be on his own. Alone.

Starfire smiled as Robin made it clear that it was settled but something told her that it was not all right at all with him but she said nothing about it... yet. She could always talk to him when they returned or if she asked to take a break, or perhaps ask him to go for a walk so they could talk with each other for a while... alone. Starfire was greatly affected by Robin. He had no idea how much. She wanted to be with him more than he would ever dare dreaming of. She had looked at with a longing look for so long. "Robin... let us make haste to get to the park. We can not waste any time."

"Starfire is right. The sooner we get there, the more time we have to fool around in."

"Cyborg, I'm hungry as hell. All this tofu is for me," Best Boy explained to his semi-robotic friend as he finished packing his lunch. He then proceeded to grab some ice from the freezer so that they could bring some sodas with them. Beast Boy tried to ignore the exchange happening between Robin and Starfire, but it was hard to. It seemed that Starfire was trying urge them to move faster. Beast Boy took it as a hint to pack faster. Perhaps a trip out of the building would be good for Robin. Or maybe, it wouldn't do any good at all, but he tried to be optimistic.

However, Beast Boy was uneasy. Somewhere out in the city there was something in hiding. A dark force over the horizon, that was going to disrupt their peace.

Beast Boy's animalistic nature allowed him the instincts of an animal, and though his teammates didn't entirely believe him, he was always the first to sense trouble. Just as animals are usually the first to realize that a great storm approaches.

That storm now lay deep under the ground. It sat in it's chair observing a 3-D map of the city. His brow tightening in concentration, Slade Wilson was intricately planning his next move against the city.
